The Cost.

You offered me a ride home
so I didn’t have to take a cab.
I thought it was safe because

I knew you
and you dated
her.

You opened the car door like a gentleman—
(I thought)—
and slapped me firmly
on the ass.

I knew it wasn’t fair

but it was fare:
and that’s how I learned that nothing is free.

  1. Beautiful poem, of a cruel and hard topic, many of the poems here are so beautiful, in that they touch hard topics but help others to try to relate, to feel, to empathise. For this, an insight is so valuable.

Keep up the great in-depth poems!

    1. Comments like this are so incredibly meaningful. Thank you, deeply. I believe that’s what poetry should do– bring you into a time or place– swirl you into a shared human experience. I’m glad, perhaps, you felt a little bit of this. ❤️

      1. I know I felt this, I was, and still am afraid of my own poems. All but one. All are too dark, too deep, afraid of scaring everyone away. But seeing some of your poems makes me think, maybe it’s okay to share mine, to help people step into a mind that is not their own, maybe they can relate, maybe not.

Thank you so very much, I would love to hear more of your poems! So following for any updates! The one poem I am most proud of my own, my only one I ‘like’, is “Unending Care”

  2. I love this one too. Your poems are really well written: I love the use of short lines and no rhyme scheme, since it’s something I like to use myself, and you do it excellently 🙂 Looking forward to reading more!
